Walking with the Seasons

how nature walks us home

Walking with the Seasons is a celebration of nature’s rhythms and an honouring of how we are shaped by them.

Each equinox and solstice, four times a year, we are offering a small package to be mailed to you or a loved one as a seasonal gift. These little boxes are packed with the purpose of nurturing our interdependence with community and nature. Living aligned with seasonal tides is powerful personal and planetary medicine. This collaborative offering aims to inspire us to move with the rhythms of the earth and sky.

This project serves to illuminate and honour the cyclical transformations happening all around us and within us. It is a gentle reminder to reach out and write to your loved ones in the depths of spring, summer, fall, and winter - and to nourish the changing needs of your body with herbal medicines attuned to the turning of the seasons.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

April and Emily met and became close friends during a season of creekwalking in Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw territory (Broughton Archipelago, BC) off northeastern Vancouver Island in 2021. Connecting over their shared teachers and inspirations - the salmon, watersheds, flora, fauna, and funga of the land where they live. This herbal medicine and nature imagery/writing collaboration for Walking with the Seasons has been a long time in the making and they are excited to share their crafts with you.

EMILY GRUBB | SECOND SPRING HERBAL MEDICINES | @secondspringherbal

Emily (she/her) is the creator behind Second Spring herbal medicines, formulating her creations from herbs she grows from seed, wild forages, and organically sources - all handmade on Malcolm Island, BC. With her background in Environmental Sciences, certifications in Herbal Medicine and Holistic Nutrition from Pacific Rim College, and overall love and passion for all things nature, Emily's formulas are created with intention, and made to highlight the unique properties of the plants within them.

The formulation for this Spring seasonal collaboration is inspired by Nettle (Urtica dioica). Nettle has been used as food and medicine for centuries, being rich in iron, calcium, protein, and vitamins B and C. Nettle is the first plant Emily gathers each season, signalling the beginning of the new growing season and Spring.
